Selling Broadway Tickets

Rolograaf_01_04-04-2008Image by rolograaf via Flickr Broadway shows are a popular form of entertainment in the US that attracts a large number of theatre lovers. Consequently, the demand for its tickets is awfully high. Since most shows are held for a limited duration of time, there is always a mad rush for tickets. This accounts for some agencies buying tickets in bulk to help people avoid last minute hassles. They sell the tickets later at a price that is inclusive of their margins and this proves to be a good source of revenue for them. There are different techniques that these agencies employ for selling of Broadway tickets.

There are many online agencies that can assist in the selling of Broadway tickets. These agencies buy extra tickets, which are resold to another broker or customer who needs them. However, there are certain formalities to be completed before the actual process of selling takes place. This includes filling out the tickets- to -sell form. Sellers are required to furnish all the details or information regarding seat location and the price they expect to get for a certain show ticket. A representative of the agency goes through the offer, and after proper evaluation, gets in touch with the seller. The evaluation process includes thorough checking of the information provided, which has to be supported by authentic documents. The documents include a legible copy of driver's license and a letter of agreement specifying the written consent of the seller to sell the tickets to the agency. Following this, the seller and the agency reach a mutual agreement.

Tickets are also sold on consignment with online ticket selling companies. However, the difference here is that these kinds of tickets might not necessarily sell. 85% of the proceeds from the sale of such tickets go to the seller. The latter can take the consignment tickets back at will, but has the responsibility to pay for the shipping charges.

Broadway tickets are also sold to some companies at wholesale prices, which in turn resell them at retail prices. These companies generally pay 50% to 75% of the retail price to the seller. Brokers also assist in selling Broadway tickets by making arrangement for the sellers to place their ticket inventory on various sites.

There is an elaborate technique and process for selling of Broadway tickets, to make sure that those interested are not denied the opportunity of enjoying the show. This in turn contributes to the commercial viability and success of Broadway shows.

Arranging Your Broadway Sales Tickets

Metropolitan Opera (Lincoln Center), auditoriumImage via Wikipedia When you think of entertainment and theater in New York City, or for that matter anywhere else in the world, there is nothing to beat the excitement, class, and talent of Broadway shows. You can of course see many sporting events, and cultural events - at the Metropolitan Opera, the NY Philharmonic, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, etc, but there is nothing to surpass the classic shows that are special to Broadway, and make Broadway special! Wishing to see these special shows on Broadway is all right, but arranging your Broadway sales tickets is something else.

Unless you have booked your tickets for your specific shows months in advance, and at times a year in advance, you may have a problem arranging for them. Locals are known to book in advance, but what happens to the visitors who are there for a short time, and wish to enjoy a show of their choice on Broadway?

The Broadway Ticket Brokers

Broadway consists of 39 theaters designated as such. Others are either designated as Off-Broadway or Off-Off-Broadway theaters. These are not based on the location of the theaters, as the designations might suggest, but are based on the seating capacities. Off-Broadway theaters have a seating capacity ranging from 100 to 499, and Off-Off-Broadway theaters have a capacity of 99 seats or less. Broadway theaters have a seating capacity ranging from 500 to 2000.

If you have not made any advance booking, your safest and best bet for obtaining your Broadway sales tickets at the last moment, are the many Broadway ticket brokers. They can help you get your Broadway sales tickets for the shows of your choice, and it may be possible for you to get premium seats as well. Of course, no broker may be able to guarantee a particular seat number, but you may be able to get seats in particular areas designated as ‘Orchestra,’ ‘Mezzanine,’ etc.

If you are looking for group tickets, ticket brokers can help you arrange those as well. You may be planning to entertain your business clients next week, or planning a night out with your ‘old boys’’ association, chances are that your wishes may be granted. Broadway ticket brokers can arrange your Broadway sales tickets for your event next week.

It is always advisable to buy your Broadway sales tickets from reputed brokers. You may be advised to purchase your tickets, at the spur of the moment, through re-sale forums, and through eBay. Chances are that you may get the tickets you want, but at the same time there is every chance of being scammed. How do you ensure that the tickets are genuine, with genuine seat numbers? You carry a similar risk of being scalped when buying your tickets for a Broadway show through a scalper.

Ensure that the broker you use is a licensed one, and is a member of the National Association of Ticket Brokers. Member brokers need to maintain a high level of ethics in their business dealings. Buying your Broadway sales tickets through such brokers guarantees you fair dealing.

Not all can pay such high prices for tickets. Hence, some discount Broadway tickets exist so that we can see some great performances at reduced prices.

Research shows that around 98% of all Broadway tickets are sold by ticket agencies like Tele Charge and Ticket Master. Buying from such agencies or brokers does not allow for any discounts.
